Saturday Night Live’s Fosse Party

Fosse
I caught a funny skit on Saturday Night Live last night where Catherine Zeta-Jones plays a dancer going to a party with her boyfriend. Her LL Bean-clad boyfriend asks in dread, “Are there only going to be dancers at this party?” She reassures him that it will be fun and when they enter the entire SNL cast is dressed in black, with bowler hats and white gloves, doing a full range of classic Bob Fosse moves for every simple action and speaking in stage whispers. Everything from eating chips and salsa to picking up a broken glass was “danced.” It was quite well done and for those “in the know” it was fun to recognize the Fosse classics. More disturbing to me was the glint of recognition in my boyfriend’s eyes.

I personally appreciated the khakis vs all-black. Just found that right on the money.
