Why don’t we (in NY) have this?
“The Chicago Dance Project is a glimpse inside the Chicago dance world as seen through the eyes of a non-dancer and novice dancegoer.
That role is filled by Samantha Albert, an acclaimed alumnus of The Second City, who spent more than a year going behind the scenes, into rehearsals and on stage with more than 40 Chicago dance companies. She stands in for those who have seen little or no dance, discovering Chicago’s diverse dance offerings and asking questions non-dancers might ask.
Granted, there was that old MetroArts program which allowed NY dance companies to submit videos of performances for broadcasting on a local cable channel that I did not receive.
The money quote:
…the general public discovers that dance is truly for everyone, and that just as no one needs to be an experienced musician to love music, no dance experience is required to love this beautiful and thrilling art form.
Will someone please, please, pretty please step up to the plate to fund this in NY?

Funny you mention this now. I just did a Nut job at the Peoria Ballet with a girl from RASA Dance Theatre a samll contemporary company in chicago and she raved about dance project. Anyways I interviewed her, you might enjoy checking it out. Her feeling was that the organization of so much dance REALLY helped to educate the audiances as well as give dancers stuff to do.
